Mystery Skein Competition 2026

• Open to all skill levels

• Limited to 50 participants

• 49 places available (one box met an unfortunate end thanks to a very determined cat)

R300 per entry

Your entry includes:

• One 100g mystery skein of 100% merino wool

• A box of surprise goodies from participating sponsors

• Entry into the competition

• Exhibition of your completed work at the Drakensberg Fibre Festival

• Entry to the exhibition

Please note: postage is not included.

Materials

• Mystery skein: 100g of 100% merino wool

• Additional yarn: up to 500g (any fibre, colour, or texture)

• The mystery skein must be fully incorporated into the final piece

Techniques

• Knitting

• Crochet

• Weaving

• Any other handcraft technique

Embellishments such as embroidery or beading are encouraged.

All items must be entirely hand-made. Machine work is not permitted.

All projects must be completed by 31 July 2026.

Entries will be judged on:

• Creativity – originality and uniqueness

• Use of Materials – effective integration of the mystery skein and additional yarn

• Overall Presentation – visual impact and finish

Prizes will be awarded for:

• Best Overall Project

• Most Creative Use of Yarn

• Viewers’ Choice

Winners will be announced at the Prize-Giving Dinner on

Friday, 11 September 2026
